Digital Video Recorders or DVRs for Surveillance Systems

Sintel Systems manufactures PC-based DVRs resultant of extensive and continued research. Each DVR is specifically manufactured and configured for the intended application. DVRs are offered at 4-channel increments and maybe built to effectively accommodate any number of cameras.

The dedicated DVR will be used for the displaying, recording, and broadcasting of the surveillance system. The PC-based DVR will provide 30 frames per second (FPS) of viewing and recording per camera. As an example, an 8-channel DVR will offer up to 240 FPS of capacity. The paramount function of the DVR is the recoding of broadcast images. Sintel Systems utilizes high-quality video compression technology of H.264. The offered compression standard (H.264), also known as MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding) or MPEG-4 Part 10, is a video compression standard that offers significantly greater compression than other standards such as the MPEG and JPEG series. The standard offers up to twice the compression of the current MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile), in addition to improvements in perceptual quality. H.264 also delivers excellent video quality across the entire bandwidth spectrum — from 3G to HD (from 40 Kbps to upwards of 10 Mbps). This high rate of compression (H.246) combined with the quick transmission speed represents the top-end of the current market. Our basic system provides H.264 software compression which is considered A quality. The A+ quality compression is H.264 hardware compression offering compression at the hardware level and bypassing any software involvement.

The nomenclature of H.264 is the result of the combined efforts of two standards bodies — the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and International Organization for Standardization’s Moving Picture Experts Group ISO MPEG — that collectively formed the Joint Video Team (JVT). ITU originally referred to this technology as H.264, while MPEG originally referred to this technology as AVC. During the development of the standard, some also referred to the codec as JVT; however, H.264 has emerged as the standard title for this technology.

Industry example: QuickTime 7 features the state-of-the-art video codec of H.264, delivering stunning quality at remarkably low data rates. Ratified as part of the MPEG-4 standard (MPEG-4 Part 10), this ultra-efficient technology gives excellent results across a broad range of bandwidths, from 3G for mobile devices to iChat AV for video conferencing to HD for broadcast and DVD. The New Industry Standard Already ratified as part of the MPEG-4 standard — MPEG-4 Part 10 — and the ITU-T’s latest video-conferencing standard, H.264 is now mandatory for the HD-DVD and Blue-ray specifications (the two formats for high-definition DVDs) and ratified in the latest versions of the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasters) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) standards. Numerous broadcast, cable, videoconferencing and consumer electronics companies consider H.264 the video codec of choice for their new products and services. This adoption by a wide variety of open standards means that any company in the world can create devices — mobile phones, set-top boxes, DVD players and more — that will work seamlessly with QuickTime 7.
